Penjelasan
Sobat Kripto, Tornado Cash diluncurkan 2019 sebagai decentralized mixer. Deposit ETH ke pool, withdraw dari address berbeda dengan link cryptographic broken. Tujuan: privacy untuk legitimate users di transparent blockchain. Agustus 2022: US OFAC sanction Tornado Cash, salah satu code/protocol pertama yang di-sanction (bukan entity).
Cara Kerja
Smart contract pool yang accept fixed denomination (0,1 ETH, 1 ETH, 10 ETH, 100 ETH). User deposit, dapat secret note (commitment). Later, dengan note, withdraw dari address lain. Zero-knowledge proof verify withdraw legitimate tanpa reveal mana deposit yang link. Anonymity set grows dengan more users di pool.
Sanction dan Aftermath
OFAC sanction Tornado Cash addresses Agustus 2022, klaim pakai oleh Lazarus Group (North Korea hackers) untuk launder hundreds of millions. Sanction unique karena target code/contract, bukan entity. Developer Alexey Pertsev arrested di Belanda. Banyak dApp dan front-end remove access. Code remain on-chain (immutable).
Status Saat Ini
Tornado Cash contract masih functional on-chain tapi using it US-sanctioned. Banyak debate constitutional dan precedent. Untuk Sobat Kripto Indonesia: hindari Tornado Cash kecuali Sobat Kripto fully understand legal implication. Privacy needs harus weighted vs sanction compliance. Alternative privacy: Aztec Network (UK), Privacy Pools, atau privacy coins yang tidak sanctioned.
